The Game Awards has become one of the biggest events for showcasing the best video games and showing the future of the video game industry. This is the fourth year that the popular award show will be up, and nominations are finally in. One of the newest categories, virtual reality, has five awesome titles up all competing to win this year.

For best VR/AR 2018 the nominees include Polyarc’s Moss, Beat Games’ Beat Saber, Sony Interactive Entertainment Japan Studio’s Astro Bot Rescue Mission, Enhance Games’ Tetris Effect, and First Contact Entertainment’s Firewall Zero Hour. It is surprising that Beat Saber is among the list since the official release of the game is November 20th  and has only been in early access. Three of the games that are nominated this year are PSVR exclusive, perfect for fans of the PSVR but not surprising due to Sony’s market share.

“The show we have coming together this year gets more and more insane every day,” said Geoff Keighley, host of The Game Awards. “We’ve never had a lineup of announcements like this. Big surprises. Huge franchises. And now, you’ll meet the nominees that bring heart and passion to the stage.”

For this year The Game Awards the cross-over is slim, with few games appearing in multiple categories. Moss is nominated in the Best Indie Debut Game section and is against other non-VR games like Donut County, The Messenger, and Florence, which ups the chances on Polyarc winning in one of the categories it is nominated in.

This year the Game Awards are slightly different though. Players are now allowed to have their voices heard and can help select the winners in all categories of The Game Awards by voting for their favorite in the official The Game Awards Discord server. The server is officially open, and voting will run through December 5th. If fans don’t want to download Discord to their phone, players can also vote on TheGameAwards.com website and certain categories can be voted on directly from Facebook Messenger and Twitter Direct Messages. If you want to get super techy you can even vote by talking to Amazon Alexa or by Google Assistant. Besides players voting, The Game Awards will have an official voting jury which makes up for ninety percent of the votes, where fan votes make up the remaining ten percent.

The Game Awards will take place on December 6th at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles at 9 PM ET/ 6PM PT. Fans can watch The Game Awards live on YouTube, Twitch, Twitter, Facebook, Mixer, Stream TV, Playstation 4, Xbox Live, IGN, GameSpot, Polygon, MLG, and Caffeine.tv.
