The Oscar-winning actor will lend his voice to an augmented tour highlighting the infamous musician.

Next Tuesday marks the 72nd birthday of late english singer-songwriter David Bowie, whom passed away nearly three years ago in his NYC apartment after an ongoing battle with liver cancer. Despite his crippling affliction, the legendary musician still managed to release a seven album which would go on to receive two Grammy awards among multiple other nominations.

To help celebrate Bowie’s third birthday since passing, the David Bowie Is exhibit, which drew in over 2 million visitors over the course of its 12-city tour, will receive an augmented reality rendition of the exhibit available on compatible iOS and Android devices. The app will feature digital renderings of Bowie’s eclectic wardrobe, handwritten lyrics and diary entries, and original artwork for users to explore; including 60 additional items not show during the touring exhibition.

“This brings the amazing David Bowie Is exhibition to a wider audience. It’s great that his fans get to experience it. It was a privilege to be involved,” Oldman said in a statement. “I see him less as ‘David Bowie’ and more as ‘Dave from Brixton and I’m Gary from New Cross’.”

Oldman will provide audio narration of the various pieces on display throughout the augmented showroom, offering further insight into the details and history behind the out-of-this-world rockstar. At the same time, Bowie’s music will be playing in the background, culminating in a powerful and emotional tribute to the late, great music icon.

It’s a fitting role for the academy award-winning actor due to his longtime friendship with Bowie, having starred alongside him in the 1996 film Basquiat as well as in the music video for Bowie’s “The Next Day.”

David Bowie Is will be available for $7.99 this Tuesday, January 4th, 2018; what would have been Bowie’s 72nd birthday.
