Star Wars: Project Porg has been generating a lot of hype and last week they added another notch in the belt by announcing that the AR experience will be coming to the Magic Leap One soon.

Originally the game was suppose to be released in December 2018 but nothing has come of it yet. Via Twitter both ILMxLAB and Magic Leap announced that the immersive AR experience will be “hatching soon.”

We first got to view the new Star Wars experience last October. ILMxLAB’s Project Porg offers an AR experience that tasks you with gaining the trust and affection of your porgs by feeding them treats, playing with them, and following instructions from c-3PO. Star Wars fans can rejoice since the original voice actor, Anthony Daniels, came back to reprise his role as C-3PO for the game.

During the Magic Leap L.E.A.P developer confernece an executive from ILMxLAB said:

“We strive to create experiences that are story-based, cinematic in their visual quality, and experiences that incorporate state-of-the-art interactive design. Imagine if characters previously only alive in the world of film really existed in your world?”

Mark Miller, the executive creative producer at ILMxLAB, told Variety that Project Porg was just a step for ILMxLAB to explore the new world of AR experiences. The company is even considering building similar AR experiences for mobile devices but they are currently focusing on targeting high-end devices across AR and VR.

As of now there is no definite release date for the porg simulator. Some wonder if the game will be apart of the Magic Leap One’s content store which is still being filled out currently. It is rumored that the game will also be free to Magic Leap One users whenever it is released.

This also isn’t the first partnership that ILMxLAB has had either. The company partnered with location-based VR startup The Void and a 3-part VR series for the Oculus Quest VR Headset.
