At Star Wars Celebration on Friday (April 12), Lucasfilm, Oculus and ILMxLab released a new trailer for Vader Immortal: Star Wars VR Series.
As shown in the trailer, one particular episode will see the player take control of a smuggler who must attempt to escape after being captured by Vader on the volcanic planet Mustafar.
The player will get to explore the base before eventually finding a lightsaber to use in combat. Yes, virtual reality lightsaber battles are now a thing.
The first of the three-episode series is said to take between 45 minutes and an hour to complete, with Oculus revealing that the events of the game take place before A New Hope.
There’ll also be a standalone game mode Lightsaber Dojo, which will allow players to use the Jedi weapon in open-ended play.
Further details about the project are currently scarce, but the game’s developers did reveal that its plot spawned from discarded concepts from previous films, which could essentially mean players are getting to play parts of a Star Wars movie that never happened.
Vader Immortal: Star Wars VR Series is set for release later this year and will be available on Oculus Quest, Oculus Rift and Rift S.
