There was a lot of hype around virtual reality, however, sales have plummeted over the summer.

The number of HTC Vive owners on Steam grew only 0.3 percent in July and was flat in August, according to the Steam Hardware & Software Survey.  The Oculus Rift ownership on Steam grew 0.3 percent in July and 0.1 percent in August.

Right now, 0.18 percent of Steam users own the HTC Vive and 0.10 percent own the Oculus Rift.

Sony’s PlayStation VR could help turn things around for the VR market when it launches worldwide on October 13.
